What do you do when your toddler cant keep his fingers out of his nose (maybe you have a 5 year old like mine who also likes to taste what he just recently dug up…yuck!!) or the guy sitting next to you, with who knows what, sneezes his nasty junk in your direction. Panic! Run for the hills? Hide in a bubble? Bathe in bleach? No way!

And here’s why…

-Germs are unavoidable (good hygiene sure can help)

-Germs are all around us (unless you actually do live in a bubble)

-Germs are NOT the big issue!!

When it comes to whether we are healthy or sick, our immune system health is what makes all the difference! A strong and robust immune system is the best insurance for good health.

Benjamin Franklin said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”

So how can we prevent the dreaded winter assault of colds, flus and all the rest? By keeping our immune system healthy and functioning at its best so that it is well equipped to handle the challenges we face each winter season.

Here are a few super SIMPLE but extremely IMPORTANT ways to keep your immune system functioning well:

  • Make sure you are getting plenty of sleep! Most people need an average of 7-9 hours of sleep, preferably at night.
  • Proper nutrition, clean eating, lots of fruits and dark vegetables.
  • Regular exercise. Moving your body actually helps your move your lymphatic system (an important part of your immune system’s detox and filtering function)
  • Drink enough water! Our bodies need about 1/2 our body weight in ounces of water each day to support it’s many functions, including flushing toxins from the body.
  • Doing what you can to deal with physical and emotional stress as much as possible

Essential oils also provide great support to our immune system and can give it an extra boost when our bodies need it most.

*I only recommend Young Living essential oils because of their potency and purity*

Here are some recipes I made with my Young Living essential oils that can help you on your immune boosting journey!

#1. Daily Immune Roller

Ingredients/supplies:winter wellness recipes (2)

1/3oz Roller bottle
7 drops YL Thieves blend
3 drops YL Lavender oil
2 dropsYL Vitamin E oil
Fill rest with carrier oil

Directions: Apply 1-2x a day OR every 3-4 hours when under stress. Apply on bottom of feet, wrists, back of neck or along the spine.

#2. Immune Boosting Bomb

Winter Wellness (6)Ingredients/supplies:

2 “00” vegetable capsules (I get mine here)
4 drops YL Thieves Vitality
4 drops YL Lemon Vitality
3 drops YL Oregano Vitality
2 drops YL Frankincense Vitality
finish with organic olive oil

Directions: Fill each capsule with 1/2 recipe. At the first sign of distress, take one set of capsules every 4 hours for up to 3 days. If needed after day 3, reduce to 2x a day. Do not exceed 8 days!

 

#3 Good night’s sleep support with this Bed Time Rub recipe

Ingredients/supplies:winter wellness bed time rub Recipe

1/3 cup coconut oil
12 drops Lavender oil
12 drops Cedarwood oil
12 drops Peace n Calming blend

Directions: Whip together coconut oil to soften. Add to 4oz jar and stir in essential oils. Apply to bottom of feet before bed! Use what is left on your hands on back of neck top of brain stem.

#4 Soothing Lemon Throat Coat syrup

Ingredients/supplies:winter wellness recipes

4oz glass jar
1/3 cup honey
5 drops Lemon Vitality
4 drops Thieves Vitality
2 drops Peppermint Vitality
1 cinnamon stick OR 1 tsp cinnamon

Directions: Mix all ingredients together. Take syrup by spoonful as needed or mix into hot water or tea. Store in refrigerator up to one month. Best when made with raw, local honey. To break up mucus add 1T Apple Cider Vinegar to 1T Syrup

 

#5 Free and Clear Sinus Nasal Spray

Ingredients/supplies:winter wellness recipes (4)

1oz glass spray bottle
pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt
4 drops Frankincense oil
4 drops Lavender oil
3 drops Tea Tree oil
Distilled Water

Directions: Put a pinch of sea salt in a glass spray bottle. Add essential oils and allow them to absorb into the salts for a minute or two. Fill with distilled water. Add to top, shake or roll bottle to mix. Use 1-2x daily or as needed.

#6 Keep it clean! Thieves Purifying spray

Ingredients/supplies:winter wellness recipes (5)

1 oz glass spray bottle
8 drops YL Thieves oil blend
1/2 tsp. Witch Hazel
Distilled water

Directions: Add essential oil and witch hazel to bottle. Fill remainder with distilled water. Shake and spray as needed. Use to clean toddler toys, sanitize public restroom seats, whip down cutting boards, wash fruits and vegetables, freshen gym bags, clean airplane armrests and serving trays, and spray to remove musty or heavy food odors

#7 POWERFUL Immune Power Roller

Ingredients/supplies:winter wellness recipes (6)

1/3oz Roller bottle
5 drops of Lemon
4 drops Thieves blend
3 drops Oregano oil
2 dros Lavender
2 drops Vitamin E oil
Fill rest with carrier oil

Directions: Apply 1-2x a day OR every
